Biscuits Supreme
2 cups sifted, all-purpose flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon cream of tartar
2 teaspoons sugar
½ cup shortening
2/3 cup milk
Sift dry ingredidnts into a bowl. Cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make a well in the middle and add milk into it all at once. Stir quickly with a fork just until dough follws fork around bowl. Turn otnp lightly floured surface (Dough should be soft). Knead gently 10 to 12 strokes. Roll or pat dough ½ inch thick. Dip biscuit cutter in flour; Cut dough straight down—without twisting. Bake on an ungreased baking sheet in a very hot oven (450 degrees F) for 10 to 12 minutes. Makes 16 medium biscuits.
